DIY Circle Garland
Ever since I completed my last project in the nursery, I’ve been wanting a cute print to hang next to the changing dresser that had more than just pink and white in it. So when I saw this canvas at HomeGoods, I had to have it. It was exactly what I imagined in my little noggin for this space. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to add some more colors into this very girly room. Not that I mind it being girly, mind you, but it’s fun to add some more depth and details.

As Seen on TV: File Cabinet Makeover
If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw I was recently on a local lifestyle and news program showing different ways to make over file cabinets. Similar to the file cabinet I helped Toni make over in January, the goal was to create an accent furniture piece out of a very utilitarian piece of office equipment. My finished file cabinet used on set was styled to look like an entry table. Unfortunately I don’t have a before, but I hope you can imagine a tan metal cabinet with “weatherstrip” written on the top…In its former life, it was storage for my dad’s construction company.

Featured on Today’s Homeowner: Upcycle/Recycle
I’ve got a fun (and different) project for you that was featured on this past weekend’s episode of Today’s Homeowner TV! The episode was all about upcycling and recycling! 2 of my favorite topics! I love recycling anything and everything I can, and part of that is reusing or upcycling things for a new life. Anyone who has an affinity for cats can appreciate this. We turned this old hutch…

Circle, Circle, Dot, Dot
A little less than a month before our sweet Mary Helen was born, Brandon and I were taping an episode of Today’s Homeowner that followed the installation of our new HVAC system. The episode aired across the country this past weekend. We thought having a baby was the perfect time to improve the efficiency of our home. So we also covered several other small projects that will help with energy efficiency besides a new HVAC. Don’t want the baby to be too hot or too cold! One of those projects was sewing some Roman shades for the nursery. Opening curtains/shades during the day in the winter allows the sun to…

How to Create an Easy Cross on Canvas
DIY Shimmery, Gold Cross on Canvas that Pops! When I was putting together items to hang as part of the nursery gallery wall, I picked up some small 4×6 canvases with an idea to create my own art with some paint and gold leaf. It ended up being a super easy and quick project with pretty results! Materials gold leaf paper 5×7 canvas acrylic paint white glue* foam brush* The most expensive part of the project was of course the gold leaf paper, but I didn’t use all 25 sheets. So part of the cost of it can roll over into whatever future project I end up using it on.

Paper Peony Bouquet
As part of the gallery wall I curated for our little lady’s nursery, I knew I wanted to incorporate something flowery. Either real or fake. And when I found the perfect mercury glass candle holder/vase, I knew exactly what to do. Recreate some peony-style flowers from pink tissue paper that I shared on Instagram over a year and a half ago. Most of you don’t know how much I LOVE to recycle. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. is my motto. I’ll go out of my way to make sure something gets recycled. I’m pretty sure I’ve even brought back plastic bottles in my suitcase to be recycled before. And that’s where the…

Ruffling the Nest
Projects are winding down in the nursery and so is this pregnancy! Can’t believe in about 2 weeks we’ll get to meet our little girl! After painting the walls, adding gold to the ceiling, hanging crown molding, updating an old dresser, framing the windows, touching up stain on the floor, creating a poofy mobile, laying out and hanging the gallery wall, and making curtains without sewing, there’s not much else that could possibly be done in this small space! Except make a skirt for the crib and possibly make and hang shelves above the changing table/dresser. 🙂 Those shelves can always come after her arrival, but the crib skirt is…

Poofy Pom Pom Ceiling Mobile
Things are moving slowly, but surely in the nursery. Good thing since Baby Girl is expected to arrive in less than 8 weeks! Eek! My awesome parents bought us a beautiful crib and comfy glider which completed the major furniture needed in the nursery after I spruced up my old dresser. So now I’m starting to fill in the walls with pretty, shiny, girlie things! We positioned the crib in the corner opposite the door. It seems to work best for the particular configuration of doors and windows we have in this small room. But it leaves a big chunk of floor space empty behind it. And in order to…

Quick Dresser Updates on a Budget
Like a lot of people nowadays, Brandon and I decided to forego the standard nursery changing table. Instead, we’re using a dresser with a changing pad on top. Then we’ll be able to use the dresser for storage and clothes as our first born ages and outgrows the nursery. And even better…we got the dresser for free! It’s actually the dresser my parents bought as part of an entire bedroom suit for me when they were expecting their second child. So I guess you could say it’s an antique. 🙂 But I can’t just leave it as is! I wanted to change it up subtly, without involving the usual paint…
