Repurpose Dingy Hand Towel

December 20, 2016 By Chelsea Lipford Wolf Leave a Comment

Don’t throw your old hand towels away! I was thisclose to throwing away a dingy Christmas hand towel. But the small design on the front was still cute and in great shape!

Christmas Hand Towel Before Upcycle

The dingy part was mostly on the back where it had been stained from a pair of my red pants, or rather from trying to dye said pants in the washing machine…

And it just so happened that I had cleaned out my craft closet the night before (thank goodness for nesting or this house would be exploding at the seams!) and saw a leftover canvas from when I gold-leafed a cross for Mary Helen’s room. So I decided to use the good part of the towel and staple it to the small canvas to create a cute little Christmas decoration!

Repurpose Old Hand Towel Into Decoration

Here are all of the materials I used. All of which I had on hand, making this project FREE!

Materials Used to Upcycle Hand Towel

First thing I did was trim some of the excess fabric but still leaving enough to be able to pull it tight as I was stapling.

Excess Trimmed from Hand Towel

Since the design on this particular towel was towards the bottom, I wanted to keep as much fabric at the bottom as possible without showing the pink trim. So I started there by lining up the trim on the back of the canvas so it wouldn’t be seen on the front or bottom. Then I stapled it in place.

I continued stapling around the back until all four sides were tight and secure. And I trimmed the remaining excess fabric.

In the spirit of the holidays and gift-giving, I wrapped the corners like a present before stapling.

And that’s it! 5 minutes of my time and I saved a dingy towel, or at least part of it, from the trash! And it cost me zero dollars. Perfect little last-minute crafty if you’re purging Christmas hand towels. Or any cutesy hand towels for that matter!

How to Reuse Hand Towel as Art Decoration

Hope your preparations for Christmas are complete or almost there so you can enjoy the time with friends and family!

Didn’t mean for this to be #ASMR but here we are Didn’t mean for this to be #ASMR but here we are!🤷🏼‍♀️ I bought this orchid 15 months ago to use the flowers in our hair for my sister’s wedding. I’ve already repotted it once and it’s bloomed 3-4 times! Time to do it again with a pretty new pot that matches our new kitchen cabinets!🤩
.
.
Steps to repot an orchid:
1-large pot without drainage holes
2-plastic pot slightly smaller with holes
3-trim if needed so plastic pot is at or below outside pot
4-add layer of orchid specific potting mix (it looks like bark!)
5-add orchid, fill in around roots with more bark- don’t forget to add some mix under the leaves!
6-to water, soak bark and fill up outside pot, rinse the leaves too!
7-let sit for 5-10 minutes, then drain and dry the outside of your pot.
8-set in place and enjoy!🌷

Lookie! It’s a shelf for your bookies! 🤣Build Lookie! It’s a shelf for your bookies! 🤣Building a shelf unit custom for ANY space in your home is so simple and can be done over and over again to add much needed storage aka sanity! The kids were running all over the house at bedtime trying to find a book to read because we had them stashed in baskets and shelves in several different rooms. So I took advantage of this space in the hall next to a closet to create a central location for their books and some of mine too! Plus it adds a little character to an otherwise blah space!🙌🏻
