Chalk Paint Furniture Fail
I’ve been a big fan of chalk paint for several years now. I’ve used it on countless projects including some dining room chairs my mom helped me update. It’s supposed to eliminate the prep work, like sanding, before you get to the actual painting. But I’ll admit I’ve always cheated on this step. I couldn’t help but at least lightly sand my pieces before painting. Knocking a little of the sheen off of stained wood before painting over it just seems to make sense. Well, this time I decided to try it without ANY prep work on this old hand-me-down coffee table from my parents’ house. It used to reside…

Footstool with the Fur
Since I’m only 39 weeks pregnant, I thought it was time for a little post about the new nursery in town. Fit for a baby BOY! My husband and I went back and forth about where to let the new little one sleep during his first months at home. We contemplated our room until he slept longer at night at which time we could move him in with his big sis. But co-sleeping didn’t work out too well for us with Mary Helen. Babies make a lot of noise in their sleep! So instead, I cleared out all of my “junk” from our guest room and turned it into a…

Installing Grab Bar Without Studs
One thing I’ve learned over the past few months of having a toddling tot around is that a perfectly fine shower/bathtub for an adult is not necessarily perfectly fine for an 11 month old just starting to walk. And then I entered my third trimester with baby #2 and realized maybe my shower isn’t perfectly fine for an adult either! I’ve recently developed a Sunday morning routine that includes a bubble bath, hot coffee, and sometimes some music. It’s part necessity since a bath is the only way I can manage to shave my legs nowadays! The only problem is at the end, when it’s time to face reality again,…

Glitter Grout Review
If you checked out my latest post on my daughter’s play kitchen ‘renovation’, I mentioned I added a tile backsplash with gold glitter grout. You may be thinking that’s a lot of work and effort for a play toy. I had the same thought. BUT, I really wanted to try out some glitter grout that I had seen and shared on Facebook a few months ago. I like glitter and shimmer, but I could never see myself using it in an actual kitchen or bathroom. The problem in using it for my play kitchen is that it comes from overseas and costs big monies just for shipping. And would obviously…

(Play) Kitchen Remodel
When you find a perfectly good play kitchen on the side of the road, you can’t not pick it up! Am I right? My mom spotted it while walking in her neighborhood and called me up. I was there 15 minutes later loading it in my trunk! (With some assistance from its previous owner.) And this isn’t my first time picking up treasures off the side of the road! Check out my bar cart upcycle here. Once I got it home and unloaded, I realized it was actually missing a lot more than I had originally thought. Only 1 of 4 doors was still in place. It seems this little…

January is a great month to purge stuff around your house or pick up a healthier lifestyle. Stripping Sealer from Concrete
The rug I painted on my garage floor is still going strong! (If you haven’t watched the how-to video yet, what are you waiting on?) But one thing I left out of the video was how I messed up the first time I applied the sealer to the floor. The mistake I made was a total rookie move. I simply applied it too thick. You would think, oh let me coat it really good so I don’t miss any spots. But what happens is that it doesn’t cure, or dry, very well. And it ends up tacky and streaky. Exhibit A:

Upcycle: Potting Bench
I don’t know if you’ve noticed this about me lately, but apparently I’m on an upcycle and repurpose kick. I really do love giving something new life! Especially when it comes to cheap or free furniture pieces. That’s where this large-and-in-charge potting bench comes into play. On a recent episode of Today’s Homeowner, we transformed a shed into a gardener’s potting shed paradise for homeowner Delores.
