I’ve been wanting to make this light fixture for close to a year now! It was originally planned for the kids’ playroom to replace an old ceiling fan that didn’t have a light. And bonus that it was SO easy to put together and took less than a hour!🙌🏻 Materials You can order everything you need and have it delivered to your door step. Gosh it’s a great time to be alive!🤪…

DIY Ceiling Fan Installation
How to Change a Light into a Ceiling Fan You don’t need to hire an electrician to change out your old bedroom light fixture for a stylish ceiling fan! I’ll show you how to do it yourself! Remove Old Fixture For some situations, just turning off the light switch will kill the power to your light fixture. But there are some wiring situations where this is not the case. So the best bet is to turn off the power at the source – the circuit breaker! After unscrewing whatever is holding your old fixture in place and lowering it from the ceiling, you’ll see all of the wire connections. For…

Hanging Lights Around A Deck
Watch the video above for all of the details on how to hang string lights around an open deck I love the deck in our backyard. It’s right off our sunroom and kitchen where we spend most of our time at home. But it really lacked inspiring lighting. Now, I’m a big fan of the cafe-style lights and wanted some for our deck. But since it’s an open deck (and not covered), there wasn’t a place to hang any string lights. Then one day I was walking up the deck steps, like I do when I come home everyday, and got the idea to use shepherd’s hooks to hold the…

Ditching the Fluorescent
Something that’s been hanging over my head (quite literally) the last few weeks while working at the laundry room project turned out so much better than I expected! I was nervous to ditch the old fluorescent light fixture since the one advantage to having a fluorescent is how much light they give off. But my worry was unfounded since the fixture the homeowner, Stephanie, and I picked out had 4 bulb sockets, up to 100 watts each! Oh and did I mention it’s a real looker too?!

Skeeter-Free Zone
One thing we learned very early on while taking care of our little baby girl, Mary Helen, is that she LOVES being outside! She could be pitching a fit and as soon as she is outside, she quiets up. It was an easy way to extend the time between feedings by a few minutes when she was a few weeks old. And it still works today if she’s fussy and we just don’t know why. BUT…it’s summer now. And that means bugs. Especially mosquitoes, or skeeters as we call them down here in Alabama. 🙂 I hate the idea of spraying down my 8 month old with bug spray. I…

DIY Concrete Pendant Lights
For a few years now, my dad has been talking about transforming the back patio on his and my mom’s house into a great outdoor kitchen. The backyard has gone through a few transitions over the years, including adding a beautiful swimming pool my senior year of high school. Which, by the way, was 10 years ago already! Say What?! Well dad is finally getting his dream kitchen and I got to play a small part. The wonderful exterior designer who helped my parents put their ideas together, Catherine, helped me create some awesome concrete lights to hang above the new bar area. (See more of her cool projects on…
