    Repurposing A Tidy Cats Container

    November 28, 2016 /

My last post on refinishing a metal laundry cart left off with a tease on the kitty litter container I upcycled into a laundry detergent dispenser. And now I’m here to deliver the deets! But first a quick thank you for following along on this here blog journey! I’m so thankful for each and every eyeball who visits my site and hopefully finds something useful to do in your home! And I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday with friends and/or family! I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it on here before or not, but I would love to be a crazy cat lady. You know someone who…

Adding a Stained Top to a Metal Cart

    November 18, 2016 /

I love being able to modify something to make it more unique, pretty, or functional. Especially when that something was only $8 to begin with! So when I found this cart at our local Goodwill store, I knew it’d be perfect for my laundry room project after a few modifications. I could have put a lot more time and money into, but decided spray painting it and adding a simple stained wood top to match the laundry sorter would be plenty!

    Ditching the Fluorescent

    November 7, 2016 /

Something that’s been hanging over my head (quite literally) the last few weeks while working at the laundry room project turned out so much better than I expected! I was nervous to ditch the old fluorescent light fixture since the one advantage to having a fluorescent is how much light they give off. But my worry was unfounded since the fixture the homeowner, Stephanie, and I picked out had 4 bulb sockets, up to 100 watts each! Oh and did I mention it’s a real looker too?!

    November 4, 2016 /

How to Hang a Cube Organizer on the Wall When it came to storage and organization in my laundry room project, I wanted to think outside the (cabinet) box. The plan is to put cabinets on the wall above the washer and dryer, so I thought it’d be fun to use something different on the opposite wall above the laundry sorter. And I think that’s what I got. It’d be great in a bedroom or family room too!

    Cleaning Up Yard for Winter

    October 28, 2016 /

Being pregnant has lots of perks. People holding doors open for you and offering to do your heavy-lifting, etc. But one thing I’m not digging (pardon the pun…) is not being able to be out in my yard during the high heat of summer. Here in Mobile, most days during the months of July, August, September and half of October get into the 90s with humidity at 85%+ giving a heat index of over 100!! It’s no joke to be playing outside in the middle of the day. So I had to turn a blind eye to the mess my yard was becoming. It was painful since I’d worked so…

    Backpack Drop Zone

    October 20, 2016 /

One of the overall goals for the laundry room makeover I started several weeks ago is to help it function better for the family that uses it daily. Sure it’s fun to make it more beautiful, but what good is that if the family is having to make sacrifices in this space (or elsewhere in their house, for that matter) in order to live their everyday lives. So, enter the backpack drop zone. Previously the backpacks were dropped off on the floor as the 4 kids of the house entered the house through the garage. Not pretty and certainly not functional. But the solution is so easy. And pretty cheap…

    Geaux Saints DIY Wreath

    October 10, 2016 /

Growing up in southern Alabama, fall was always about college football. So I never grew up with a pro football team affiliation. And even now that I’m married to an Indiana boy, he’s more about his Fighting Irish than following the Indianapolis Colts. Though I know he still watches some and keeps up with them. So when a local news talent, Chad Petri, asked me to share some tips on making wreaths back in September, I thought I’d go with neutral territory and make a wreath for the New Orleans Saints. (Our closest NFL team.) I’m not saying this wreath has magical powers, but I will say the Saints didn’t…

How to Build a Beautiful Laundry Sorter

    September 29, 2016 /

DIY Laundry Sorter That Looks Like a Dresser Plans for building a laundry hamper sorter that actually looks like a dresser. Such a pretty way to dress up your laundry room while adding function at the same time! It’s finally here! The tutorial you’ve all been waiting for! Or maybe it was just me? The laundry sorter-that-looks-like-a-dresser is complete after I think a month of trying to work on it. But that was more my schedule and timing than the time it took to actually make the thing. It looks like a dresser with 12 drawers…but it’s actually 4 pullout hampers! The color is Casual Gray from Behr* and the…
