Get it? Like SpongeBob SquarePants? Anyway…I found this neat little trick in one of those Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: kind of emails and thought it’d come in handy!
You take a new or old sponge (I used one that was ready to be decommissioned from dish service) and fill it with water.
Then you place in a resealable plastic baggie and set in the freezer. Leave it in there until the next time you have a sore muscle or boo-boo.
Use it like any other ice pack to soothe your aches and pains. But when it starts to melt, the sponge will hold the water! You won’t have to worry about it spilling out or cleaning up after!
Anyone else have tricks or tips for homemade ice packs?

I put some of the water absorbing crystals that are used to keep moisture in soil (sold at gardening centers and garden department at stores like Walmart) into a zipper bag and add water. The crystals swell up and get jelly-like then I put them in the freezer. You can use any size baggie then have just the right size ice pack. Don’t make them too full and they will mold around a knee, ankle or wherever the injury is.

That’s a great idea D’Ann. Easy and mess-free! Thanks for sharing!

…as a diabetic I have to use insulin and with every re-supply my insulin comes packed with frozen “reusable” cold paks! I save them up during the year and give them away during our summer rummage sales. The bags are a heavy plastic and can be re-frozen many many times!

That’s a great way to reuse what you’ve got, Ralph!
