Great White Whale
And by whale, I mean wall(s) because Brandon and I painted our living room! When I painted the accent wall in the living room, it was always my intention to paint the remaining 3 walls to coordinate. But it was such a large task (it’s the biggest room in our house) that I put it off. But we finally dove in a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I’m not too keen on it. But I’m OK with it enough to keep the color and warm up the room with colorful accents on the walls and horizontal surfaces (mantel, tables, mirrored chest, etc).

Herb Garden Centerpiece
Last summer I put a little effort into beautifying my back deck by painting an outdoor area rug. I then followed that up by purchasing some outdoor throw pillows that tied the rug together with my worn-out green sofa cushions. Now I’m back out back with a few more tweaks for Spring! First up, creating a fun, multitasking centerpiece for the table.

Chelsea’s Choice: Love Where You Live
**This giveaway has ended. Scroll down to see the winner and check out my giveaway tab for my next giveaway! I’m so glad springtime is almost here! Nothing is prettier on a sunny day than freshly-blooming plants and green grass! My main access to my house is through the back door. Since I park in the garage and do most of my projects out there too, I’m constantly walking across our back deck to get to and fro. I’ll soon be adding some fresh, new planters and flowers to my back deck. But before I do, I have a great opportunity for you to improve your deck with my “Love…

Featured on Today’s Homeowner: Spring!
If you haven’t noticed by now, I’ve been highlighting different episodes of Today’s Homeowner that I co-host. It won’t be every week. But when there’s a project I’m excited about, I’ll be sharing with you! This week’s episode is a handy, dandy checklist to get your home ready for Spring. We’ve broken down the “must-dos” from the “could dos” to make it easier than ever to maintain your home year-round. This is the 1st of 4 from our Four Seasons of Homeownership episodes. Dad, Allen and I had a great time helping Sharla and Stuart work inside and outside of their home doing some improvements to make a big difference…

As Seen on TV: File Cabinet Makeover
If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw I was recently on a local lifestyle and news program showing different ways to make over file cabinets. Similar to the file cabinet I helped Toni make over in January, the goal was to create an accent furniture piece out of a very utilitarian piece of office equipment. My finished file cabinet used on set was styled to look like an entry table. Unfortunately I don’t have a before, but I hope you can imagine a tan metal cabinet with “weatherstrip” written on the top…In its former life, it was storage for my dad’s construction company.

Grouted in Place
That’s right, the fireplace hearth has been grouted. And it looks even better than before. If I do say so myself. 🙂 I wanted to keep the overall feel of the hearth very light, so I chose a light-colored grout. I thought I was getting a grayish white from the looks of the color on the label. But it turned out “Alabaster” is more off white. I don’t hate it, but it’s not quite what I thought I was getting. I think it’ll grow on me though. (**Update~It has grown on me and I love it!) While I was picking up my grout I also got a grout sealer. And…

My Achy Breaky Hearth
At the end of my last post about adding molding to my fireplace, I teased the re-tiling of my fireplace hearth. It took a while thanks to a few starts and stops, but I finally got the old tile removed and the shiny new tile in place. And I’m loving the more modern look of it!

Featured on Today’s Homeowner: Upcycle/Recycle
I’ve got a fun (and different) project for you that was featured on this past weekend’s episode of Today’s Homeowner TV! The episode was all about upcycling and recycling! 2 of my favorite topics! I love recycling anything and everything I can, and part of that is reusing or upcycling things for a new life. Anyone who has an affinity for cats can appreciate this. We turned this old hutch…

Fireplace Molding Update
About the same time I was helping Sheena build her fireplace mantel for my February episode, I was also working on updating my mantel and fireplace area. I can’t remember if it was working on her mantel that inspired me to update mine or if it just happened coincidentally at the same time. Either way, great minds think alike! And with all of these fireplace projects taking place on my blog during the month of February, I’ve dubbed it Fireplace February! (Not that other things won’t take place here, there are just several fireplace-related projects happening at the moment!) While I was repairing my mantel to keep it from interfering…
