How Our Bathroom Sink Repair is Holding Up
I posted a few months ago that I was testing out Homax’s Porcelain Chip Fix on our bathroom sink. We had 3 very small chips that you can’t hardly capture on camera, but they were more obvious in real life.
I applied it twice since the first time I didn’t wait very long to use the sink and it was washed away. The second time around, though, we waited 4 days to use it and about 2 weeks to clean it. That’s over and beyond what the directions call for.
So I’m very disappointed to report that when I cleaned the sink bowl, the chip fix was immediately wiped away. The directions say to use nonabrasive cleaners. I used a natural spray made with Thieves essential oils and wiped it with a kitchen rag. No rough sponges or cleaners with an abrasive scrub.
As I drug the rag over the spots, the chip fix disappeared like a speck of dirt.
I’m just glad the spots weren’t very bad to begin with! But I wish I had better news to offer those of you who have bigger spots to correct in your sinks!
Ahh! Oh well, at least I can say I tried! Tell me what you think about product reviews like this in the comments! Are they helpful? Or do you prefer to only see things that work, not the trial and error? Let me know what you want me to try next!
Thanks for Checking In! ~Chelsea

I also read your posts and reviews. I have been using porcelain touchup paint on my tub chips. It’s not permanent but it does look better for a bit. Thanks

It’s not too expensive for a quick, temporary fix. I’ll give them that, Joan! ~Chelsea

Both, please. The things that work and the ones that don’t.
Thanks.

I find it refreshing to see diy personalities present the whole picture, whether something works or doesn’t work. Please continue to give us whatever the end results are. Thanks Chelsea! I look forward to your next project!

Your clear explanation of how you used the product and your report of the disappointing results were both helpful. Now I know not to buy this product and why. More similar stories would be welcome.

Thank you for your honesty. My experience had taught me to keep on trying. We learn more from failure than from success. Enjoy your blog and tv program.

I was sorry it didn’t work. I have some abrasion around the drain area of my bathroom sink and it looks awful was really hoping something might work to keep from replacing the sink top. I sure was looking for a fast cure.
Thank you
