Hanging Herb Garden How To

Our back deck is right outside of our kitchen and sunroom. So it’s a great place to keep plants and herbs we use when cooking. You may remember last year…

    The Armchair Reimagined

    November 29, 2015 /

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break with family and friends! My husband and I survived our first road trip with baby Mary Helen up to Indiana and back to visit his side of the family. Speaking of the baby, my latest project is all about rehabbing a piece of furniture that came out of her room at the beginning of its transformation. Exhibit A: This lovely, over 20-year-old wingback armchair was inherited from my parents after they remodeled and refurnished their living room. I bought a slipcover for it at one point, but it didn’t fit very well and was returned. When we moved everything out of the…

    November 8, 2015 /

A little less than a month before our sweet Mary Helen was born, Brandon and I were taping an episode of Today’s Homeowner that followed the installation of our new HVAC system. The episode aired across the country this past weekend. We thought having a baby was the perfect time to improve the efficiency of our home. So we also covered several other small projects that will help with energy efficiency besides a new HVAC. Don’t want the baby to be too hot or too cold! One of those projects was sewing some Roman shades for the nursery. Opening curtains/shades during the day in the winter allows the sun to…

    Chelsea’s Choice: Sense-able Keyless Security

    November 2, 2015 /

**This giveaway has ended. Scroll down to see the winner and click over to my giveaway tab to see my current giveaway! I’ve had a keypad-style deadbolt on my house since we remodeled it in 2012. And it is the greatest thing ever. I can go for a walk or run without having a key bop around in my pocket. And my mom can drop by and water my plants when I’m out of town without having to hide a key or arrange a drop off. But now Schlage has taken it a step further with the new Schlage Sense. This sleek door lock can be controlled through Bluetooth technology…

How to Create an Easy Cross on Canvas

    October 26, 2015 /

DIY Shimmery, Gold Cross on Canvas that Pops! When I was putting together items to hang as part of the nursery gallery wall, I picked up some small 4×6 canvases with an idea to create my own art with some paint and gold leaf. It ended up being a super easy and quick project with pretty results! Materials gold leaf paper 5×7 canvas acrylic paint white glue* foam brush* The most expensive part of the project was of course the gold leaf paper, but I didn’t use all 25 sheets. So part of the cost of it can roll over into whatever future project I end up using it on.

I just want to take a quick moment to thank all of you who left likes and sweet comments on my Instagram and Facebook posts announcing the arrival of my husband’s and my first child, Mary Helen. I’ve read every single one! It has certainly been an overwhelming week, both emotionally and physically. But we’re all adjusting and she’s worth it! I’ll be back soon with a few more projects from her room that were completed before she arrived! Thanks for Checking In! ~ Chelsea

    Paper Peony Bouquet

    October 6, 2015 /

As part of the gallery wall I curated for our little lady’s nursery, I knew I wanted to incorporate something flowery. Either real or fake. And when I found the perfect mercury glass candle holder/vase, I knew exactly what to do. Recreate some peony-style flowers from pink tissue paper that I shared on Instagram over a year and a half ago. Most of you don’t know how much I LOVE to recycle. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. is my motto. I’ll go out of my way to make sure something gets recycled. I’m pretty sure I’ve even brought back plastic bottles in my suitcase to be recycled before. And that’s where the…

    Living on the Ledge

    September 27, 2015 /

As the calendar inches closer to my due date (t-minus 6 days…), I’ve been cutting back on projects around the house. But I undertook one last project in the nursery this week with some help from dear ole Dad. We built these simple picture ledges to hang above the diaper changing station on my old dresser. It really helps fill a void in the room! Plus it adds a neat place to keep books and pretty things. I originally got the idea when I saw some inexpensive ledges just like them at IKEA (Ribba Picture Ledge). But they didn’t have the longer length in white. I briefly thought about spray…

    Ruffling the Nest

    September 16, 2015 /

Projects are winding down in the nursery and so is this pregnancy! Can’t believe in about 2 weeks we’ll get to meet our little girl! After painting the walls, adding gold to the ceiling, hanging crown molding, updating an old dresser, framing the windows, touching up stain on the floor, creating a poofy mobile, laying out and hanging the gallery wall, and making curtains without sewing, there’s not much else that could possibly be done in this small space! Except make a skirt for the crib and possibly make and hang shelves above the changing table/dresser. 🙂 Those shelves can always come after her arrival, but the crib skirt is…
