Painting Small Spaces White
When I was originally selecting paint colors for my house, I was a novice homeowner and really had no idea what I was doing. (Well, who’s to say I know what I’m doing now! But at least I feel more confident in choosing paint colors.) Back then my dad was remodeling a house and one of the rooms was painted the golden yellow I used in my dining and living rooms as well as the hallway. I didn’t necessarily like it but it was easier to write down the color’s name and have a few gallons mixed up than pick one from the hundreds of swatches in the paint aisle.…

Hanging Herb Garden How To
Our back deck is right outside of our kitchen and sunroom. So it’s a great place to keep plants and herbs we use when cooking. You may remember last year I created a centerpiece with some small pots and fresh herbs. This year, though, I thought I’d mix it up a bit. So that’s just what I did by creating hanging herb gardens!

Chelsea’s Choice: Thrilling Plant Barrel
**This giveaway has ended. Scroll down to see winners and click over to my giveaway tab to see my next giveaway! There’s nothing like an overflowing container to make my plant-loving heart go pitter-patter! And this time of year there are flowers aplenty adorning decks, porches, and patios. There’s a simple way to achieve that full-planter by following the thrill, fill, spill rules. Essentially you have one tall plant in the middle surrounded by mounding filler plants with a third type of plant that spills over the edges of your planter. You can read more about “Thriller, Filler, Spiller” planters in this article I wrote for Southern Patio last year.…

Easy Way to Water Container Plants
It’s really starting to feel like summer here in Alabama. The highs most days are already up in the 80s! I’m scared for what that might mean for July’s and August’s temperatures!? Of course warm weather means more time outside. And I don’t know about you, but the more I’m outside, the more I want to plant flowers around my house and deck! So that’s exactly what I did this past weekend. But with all of the trips I’ve been taking for work lately (Dad and I taped a segment in Atlanta last week that will air on HLN!), I’m not always able to water my potted plants when they’re…

Gallery Wall Display for Boy Nursery
Just popping in to share the gallery wall I put together for baby Gus’s room! I’ve been collecting white frames for a while now with the idea of doing a larger gallery wall somewhere in one of our living areas. But it doesn’t look like that’s ever going to transpire, so I decided to use some of them for baby boy’s nursery. I did a similar gallery wall for Mary Helen’s room before she was born with sentimental mementos. And this one is no different.

Update: House Numbers
It hasn’t been too long since I hung up my moss-covered house numbers on the front porch. Unfortunately, it was plenty of time (9 months to be exact) for the sun to wreck havoc on them and fade the mossy green color. It just made them blend in with my siding which is the opposite of their purpose…So it was time for a little update.

DIY Stained Wood Shelves
CANNOT believe it has been 4 weeks since we welcomed our sweet boy into the world! Fortunately for me, he eats and then falls right back to sleep. So I was able to knock out these shelves for his room that I didn’t quite get around to completing before he made his grand entrance. I wanted something a little more manly than the crisp white ledges I made for Mary Helen’s room. And in my mind, gray wood tones=manly. Before I cut and made the shelves, I ordered IKEA’s EKBY BJARNUM shelf brackets to hold them up. (Since the closest IKEA is 5 hours away, I ordered mine from Amazon.)…
