Manly Metal Redo
We’ve had a sick bug going around our house this week. Ugh. So far the baby has been spared (and I hope that continues!), but apparently several of the parents with babies in the same daycare room have been sick as well. So I have not completed the projects I had planned to complete and share with you! I did, however, complete another file cabinet makeover last week that I think you’ll like! A male co-worker of mine at Today’s Homeowner saw my last file cabinet makeover that now resides in my office and wanted one for himself, albeit a bit more masculine. And since we have a pile of…

DIY Circle Garland
Ever since I completed my last project in the nursery, I’ve been wanting a cute print to hang next to the changing dresser that had more than just pink and white in it. So when I saw this canvas at HomeGoods, I had to have it. It was exactly what I imagined in my little noggin for this space. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to add some more colors into this very girly room. Not that I mind it being girly, mind you, but it’s fun to add some more depth and details.

Re(a)d All Over
As promised, I’m back with the details on painting the lattice background from my bookshelf makeover. My instinct was to do a solid color, again, but then I thought I’d add a little drama to the back of the overstuffed bookshelf. After stenciling an accent wall in my living room, I thought stenciling would be the way to go to get a neat pattern.

As Seen on TV: File Cabinet Makeover
If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw I was recently on a local lifestyle and news program showing different ways to make over file cabinets. Similar to the file cabinet I helped Toni make over in January, the goal was to create an accent furniture piece out of a very utilitarian piece of office equipment. My finished file cabinet used on set was styled to look like an entry table. Unfortunately I don’t have a before, but I hope you can imagine a tan metal cabinet with “weatherstrip” written on the top…In its former life, it was storage for my dad’s construction company.

Filed Away in the New Year
Happy New Year! I’ve got lots of great, easy (and some a tad more difficult) projects planned for this year. So I hope you’ll keep Checking In with me throughout the year for some inspiration and downright how-to information. But for now, your regularly scheduled program. It seems storage and organization are always trending topics this time of year. And for good reason. It’s always nice to have a catalyst to start fresh, whether it involves getting rid of stuff or organizing what you’ve got. So that’s why this month’s project falls into that category. But I’m not going to give you any tips on how to organize. Just a…

A Very Merry Christmas Tray
Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I can wish you all a very, merry and magical Christmas! Part of the magic of Christmas is a child’s belief in Santa Claus. I know I was very reluctant to believe otherwise! So this month’s project is creating a tray to hold ole St. Nick’s cookies and milk on Christmas Eve. It all started with a $3 frame from a local thrift store. To make the frame look more like a tray, we picked up some decorative cabinet pulls from the hardware store. Before we got started on the real transformation with paint, we drilled the holes for our pulls, centering them on each…

How to Create an Easy Cross on Canvas
DIY Shimmery, Gold Cross on Canvas that Pops! When I was putting together items to hang as part of the nursery gallery wall, I picked up some small 4×6 canvases with an idea to create my own art with some paint and gold leaf. It ended up being a super easy and quick project with pretty results! Materials gold leaf paper 5×7 canvas acrylic paint white glue* foam brush* The most expensive part of the project was of course the gold leaf paper, but I didn’t use all 25 sheets. So part of the cost of it can roll over into whatever future project I end up using it on.

Paper Peony Bouquet
As part of the gallery wall I curated for our little lady’s nursery, I knew I wanted to incorporate something flowery. Either real or fake. And when I found the perfect mercury glass candle holder/vase, I knew exactly what to do. Recreate some peony-style flowers from pink tissue paper that I shared on Instagram over a year and a half ago. Most of you don’t know how much I LOVE to recycle. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. is my motto. I’ll go out of my way to make sure something gets recycled. I’m pretty sure I’ve even brought back plastic bottles in my suitcase to be recycled before. And that’s where the…

Poofy Pom Pom Ceiling Mobile
Things are moving slowly, but surely in the nursery. Good thing since Baby Girl is expected to arrive in less than 8 weeks! Eek! My awesome parents bought us a beautiful crib and comfy glider which completed the major furniture needed in the nursery after I spruced up my old dresser. So now I’m starting to fill in the walls with pretty, shiny, girlie things! We positioned the crib in the corner opposite the door. It seems to work best for the particular configuration of doors and windows we have in this small room. But it leaves a big chunk of floor space empty behind it. And in order to…
