Creating Zones for Garage Storage
How to Create Zones for an Organized Garage It’s really starting to feel like summer in Alabama! And summer means yard work, kids home from school, and maybe pool gear all over the place! So I thought it was the perfect time to share some tips from a recent episode of Today’s Homeowner about organizing your garage! Set Priorities As with any organization project, it is essential to take inventory of what you have and what your needs are as far as storage goes. What do you use most often? It needs to be easily accessible at all times. What is stored for seasonal use, i.e. Christmas or summer camping?…

Adding a Stained Top to a Metal Cart
I love being able to modify something to make it more unique, pretty, or functional. Especially when that something was only $8 to begin with! So when I found this cart at our local Goodwill store, I knew it’d be perfect for my laundry room project after a few modifications. I could have put a lot more time and money into, but decided spray painting it and adding a simple stained wood top to match the laundry sorter would be plenty!

How To Hang A Cube Organizer
How to Hang a Cube Organizer on the Wall When it came to storage and organization in my laundry room project, I wanted to think outside the (cabinet) box. The plan is to put cabinets on the wall above the washer and dryer, so I thought it’d be fun to use something different on the opposite wall above the laundry sorter. And I think that’s what I got. It’d be great in a bedroom or family room too!

Backpack Drop Zone
One of the overall goals for the laundry room makeover I started several weeks ago is to help it function better for the family that uses it daily. Sure it’s fun to make it more beautiful, but what good is that if the family is having to make sacrifices in this space (or elsewhere in their house, for that matter) in order to live their everyday lives. So, enter the backpack drop zone. Previously the backpacks were dropped off on the floor as the 4 kids of the house entered the house through the garage. Not pretty and certainly not functional. But the solution is so easy. And pretty cheap…

The Laundry Room Project
Hey hey! I’m so excited about my next project. And I hope you’ll be excited too because I need your help! I’m updating the look and function of a worn-out laundry room that belongs to a family of 6. 6 people means it sees a lot of use! So my goal is to create a fun, elegant space that is a workhorse. It also needs lots of storage. Let’s see if my plan makes sense. If you have any neat storage or laundry room ideas you’ve seen that I don’t mention, please share in the comments below!!

Manly Metal Redo
We’ve had a sick bug going around our house this week. Ugh. So far the baby has been spared (and I hope that continues!), but apparently several of the parents with babies in the same daycare room have been sick as well. So I have not completed the projects I had planned to complete and share with you! I did, however, complete another file cabinet makeover last week that I think you’ll like! A male co-worker of mine at Today’s Homeowner saw my last file cabinet makeover that now resides in my office and wanted one for himself, albeit a bit more masculine. And since we have a pile of…

Hanging Hooks on a Hollow Door
Living in a tiny house like mine really makes you get creative with storage solutions. An easy trick, though, is to hang things on the backs of doors. There are mirrors, jewelry organizers, shoe organizers, etc. made for such an application. For probably close to 2 years I’ve had our step ladder hanging on one of the laundry doors. Unfortunately the laundry doors are both hollow core doors so a normal hook would just fall out with a little pressure on it since there’s no “meat” to the door. My solution was to use my favorite adhesive Command hooks from 3M. They worked well for several months before one fell…
