Let There Be Light
Now here’s something I honestly thought would never happen. I got an overhead light fixture installed in my living room! It’s been on my living room to-do list, but I thought I’d never have the monies to hire an electrician for fun. (As opposed to hiring one for a necessity, that is.) Because as most people know, there’s always something more important that pops up for the money to be spent on. But I’ve slowly been saving since January of last year and finally hired the electrician who does a lot of subcontracting with my dad’s construction company here in town. He came out, gave me an estimate, and then…

Manly Metal Redo
We’ve had a sick bug going around our house this week. Ugh. So far the baby has been spared (and I hope that continues!), but apparently several of the parents with babies in the same daycare room have been sick as well. So I have not completed the projects I had planned to complete and share with you! I did, however, complete another file cabinet makeover last week that I think you’ll like! A male co-worker of mine at Today’s Homeowner saw my last file cabinet makeover that now resides in my office and wanted one for himself, albeit a bit more masculine. And since we have a pile of…

Dining Room To-Do List, April 2016
Well over a year ago I compiled a list of things I’d like to complete in our living room. A lot has been completed on the list like adding window trim, rearranging a few pieces of furniture, and painting the walls. And several things that weren’t on the list like updating my fireplace and hearth were also completed. There are still a few things in the works to be done in there (like installing an overhead ceiling fixture!), but I’ve moved on to a small overhaul and update in our dining room. Here’s what it looks like as of April 2016:

DIY Circle Garland
Ever since I completed my last project in the nursery, I’ve been wanting a cute print to hang next to the changing dresser that had more than just pink and white in it. So when I saw this canvas at HomeGoods, I had to have it. It was exactly what I imagined in my little noggin for this space. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to add some more colors into this very girly room. Not that I mind it being girly, mind you, but it’s fun to add some more depth and details.

Weeds Be Gone
This is probably the most revealing thing I’ve shared on this here blog, but I know I can’t be alone! When it’s cold outside (i.e. Winter), yard maintenance is practically nonexistent at my house. No weeds are pulled, no beds edged, nor any grass mowed. Add in a newborn and I’m embarrassed to claim my yard as my own. But that’s why we have Spring! A season of renewal. You see, when I first bought my house it had sat vacant for over 3 years. So the yard was just gross and overgrown. After we pretty much demolished and rebuilt the landscaping, I took it as a personal goal to…

Re(a)d All Over
As promised, I’m back with the details on painting the lattice background from my bookshelf makeover. My instinct was to do a solid color, again, but then I thought I’d add a little drama to the back of the overstuffed bookshelf. After stenciling an accent wall in my living room, I thought stenciling would be the way to go to get a neat pattern.

Bookshelfie Makeover
Today is my baby girl’s half-birthday! While not a big milestone for adults or even older children, it really feels like a giant stepping stone during her first year of life! But before I get carried away bragging about how awesome my kid is, the real reason I’m checking in today is to share a fun bookshelf makeover I just completed! This bookshelf was handed down to me from my grandparents when they were purging a lot from their house. It was originally brown with a faux wood look. Not my style. So I had caulked all of the joints and painted it white. Then I painted the back of…

Chelsea’s Choice: Planters a la Marilyn
**This giveaway has ended. Scroll down to see the winner and check out my giveaway tab on May 1st for my next giveaway! Monroe, that is. This week’s giveaway is all about the Monroe planters from Southern Patio. I’m not sure how they got their name, but I’d venture to guess it’s because they’re curvaceous and “well-constructed”. But what’s great about them is that while they have a beautiful natural stone finish, they’re made with resin and stone powder so they aren’t as heavy as a real ceramic planter would be. And with their neutral color, I’m sure you’ll find they match just about any style of decor your outdoor…

DIY End Table with Shoe Rack
Free Plans for DIY Shoe Rack Table I’ve mentioned before my desire to be a shoe-free home. And now that Mary Helen is getting closer to crawling every day, it’s even more important to me to significantly reduce the amount of dirt and grime brought onto our floors. I made a wine cork shoe tray for the living room a few months ago. But I needed something else for the back door. The end table and floor lamp there keep me from just setting a similar tray on the floor. So I decided to build a new end table for the space that also includes a shelf for shoes.
